Using the Exchange service with 1&1 and Outlook 2003.
Whenever I load up Outlook the authentication box pops up and I have to give it my password. The odd thing is that occasionally when I go to open Outlook it does not ask. But the majority of the time it does.
I noticed that in the Exchange Account settings the Exchange Proxy Server is only using Basic Authentication and I wondered if this is the cause.
It's a shame you cannot login using your sender email details like you do when you login to Outlook Web Access!!
Any solutions?

Yes I have found the constant asking for passwords to be rather annoying, but I usually only open my client in the morning, then leave it open all day at the office to receive emails and check calendars etc.
As far as I can tell there is no way to save your password so that it stops asking for it. I don't think the NTLM authentication will help, but I haven't tried that.
Perhaps I will attempt to contact 1and1 support for a solution.
Also, recently the small business I am supporting using 1and1 Exchange Hosting has been experiencing intermittent connectivity to the Exchange server using the Outlook 2003 clients. 1and1 informs me that it was a problem on their end that should now be resolved. Have you experienced this problem?

After logging into Exchange and selecting the remember password check box, go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Passwords. (Getting to the Manage Passwords dialog will vary based on your version of Windows, and your account type, more information is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/usercpl_manage_passwords.mspx?mfr=true)
Find the entry in the form 'host.exchange.xchg' (host will be the name of your exchange server). Change the host portion of the entry to an asterisk, so that the entry reads '*.exchange.xchg'. That should do it.
More information on the whats and whys are available here:

Hope that helps. :-)
