I would like to say that 1and1 is a great hosting company, even though I only have a domain hosted by 1and1. I have experienced NO downtime, and the support via email is magnificent :)

Thumbs up 1and1

It's good to hear your perspective. What product or service do you have with 1and1?

I think most of the complaints are sourced from dedicated server owners ie: root I, II, III or Windows I, II, III.

What has your turn around been for an email response?

I consistently see a 48 hour minimum turn around on email correspondance. We've gone as many as long as 72 hours or more of an outage and it's all documented on this site.

I think 1and1 has incredible products/services for the price. If 1and1 could just turn their support organization around they would be unstoppable in the United States.

I have an instant domain, http://www.technominal.com

I didn't know 1and1 had a forums board... lol, tis the reason I emailed :P

I had asked a question about the emailing once ordering, it stayed @ something not ready, but something that sounds similar. It wasn't listed on the info about the status... Anyway, I think it was updating worldwide atm.

And as for pricing, I was about to go with GoDaddy! lol, but then a friend, Radon directed me here :) He owns http://www.rdrclan.net

It may seem like I am sucking up due to only having an instant domain! But I am not, this is better domain hosting than Yahoo! My domain kept going down every few weeks...... It just wasn't worth it <_<

Agreed...

Its not that the services are bad, or even priced high... Its that unforunately in this business, service ( or technical support ) is an important part of this business. You really need all three ( good services, decent pricing, and quality technical support ).

We need to know that when things are bad, we can get an immediate response and have things running again in minutes... not hours!

I could see if 1and1's position was that everyone was asking for free service... But I think its been stated on here that we would be willing to even pay more if we knew we were going to get top notch support with fast ( within 1 hour ) turn around time on emergency technical support issues. Who here can afford to have there server down for days due to a hardware failure????

Having quality technical support engineers on staff 24x7 can be a big overhead on a company. But at the same time, a company can easily price it in to there services as to not loose on it. This goes a long way to securing your current customer base, and stealing business away from your competitors. I'm a huge believer in... "You get what you pay for!!" I'd have no problems paying extra if I knew I was going to get quality technical support :)

Yeah.. I used to be with 1and1 until I just really got mad at their support..

Tried to come back to 1and1 a few months ago, too bad it was 3 weeks and still no server. Might try again in another few months.

When I *did* have a server though, the speeds were really good, so no complaints with that. I really didn't check into this before, but do they force you to have Fedora / Plesk unless you somehow do a network install?

Yes your only options are Fedora, Debian, or SUSE. I guess this post answers my other question "if your running CentOS on a 1and1 server" :>)
