View Full Version : Domain Setup Error

I've got a bunch of domains that are now showing "Domain Setup Error" under their status and I'm unable to change any of the settings for the domain. This started occuring after I updated the nameservers for all my domains to include ns4.omegaserv.com (and ns3.omegaserv.com for the ones that were missing it). And IIRC I changed the whois data for some of them to fix some contact information that changed.
I've emailed 1and1 as the DNS setting for one of the domains has reverted to 1and1's nameservers and is nolonger resolving.

have you queried DNS to see if the domains are configured correctly and the error message is simply cosmetic or is there a real problem? This is the primary reason i wanted to get all our domains off the 1and1 DNS dependency. Your at their mercy and response time.

The domains pointing at my nameservers that show Domain Setup Error are fine.
The only domain I'm having problems with is pointing at 1and1 nameservers. and they don't even have the domain setup on the nameserver. And I can't change the domain to my nameservers because of this problem. The domain has since stoped resolving and 1and1 support hasn't replied to my emails since Feb 10 nor has the problem been solved. Although I've given the addresses for my nameservers and told them to change the domain.

Sorry if I'm going off topic here, but I just wanted to rant my frustration with 1and1.com support! It basically SUCKS!
I refuse to e-mail them because of what Jason is saying. I ALWAYS call into to their tech support number, but that has ALOT to be desired too! Each time you call them, you basically get one person after another that has NO IDEA what they are talking about! I cant tell you how many countless times I've called in for the same problem and had one support person completely contridict what another support person has said, and neither one of them were correct!
I understand they sell there servers ALOT less then everyone else does. I believe this is because you really get NO support for any of there server lines, but they should atleast employ people that have knowledge in the industry and can really supply knowledgable answers to real problems!
I tell you one thing, I wouldn't mind paying more for some real support. I've even been debating on weather to just leave 1and1 for someone like theplanet.com. I might pay $200.00 a month with theplanet.com versues paying 1and1.com $125.00, but atleast I know I'll get some real support for theplanet
Ok.. Thanks for letting me rant! Back to your problem! :)

The problem was finally resolved. They reset all the effected domains to point to 1and1 nameservers and then I moved them all back to my nameservers and I haven't had any problems since.
I really hate 1and1 support and my answers to their surveys really show it too!

I often wonder who, if anyone looks at those surveys. I've slammed them on their surveys everytime except for once when I got somebody who actually knew what they were talking about and was able to get my root server back online in 10 minutes when the drive crashed or "something" unexplained to me happened. At least he seemed to be knowledgeable and my server was backup in 10 minutes when I thought I was in REAL trouble with a dead hard drive.
That's the purpose of this forum, is to provide feedback to 1and1 if they ever were interested and/or look at it, and to provide their customers "US" some higher level of support through experience and documentation.

It would be interested to know if the "higher-ups" at 1and1 actually read this forum. Not that I would expect anything to change over at 1and1, but it would just be interesting to know if they do care or not! They seem to be making money, so I'm assuming that they aren't going to change there practices too much.

Do they even know about these forums? Has anyone sent them a email telling them about these forums?

I learned about it from a post on the Plesk Support Forums! If 1and1 cared in the least, they would put a link to this site on their site!

I understnad that sometimes webhosting support isn't perfect. But putting a link to this site on theirs? i've found about 1 topic in here that was usefull, the one about domain setup error. i like what your trying to do. I hope it helps me with some of my problems down the line, but arn't most of you reselling your hosting? and infact system admins?

i dont resell anything. Some guys here do, some dont. What everyone here tries to do is sort out problems that we have specifically with how 1&1 (UK and US) have set their servers and their total lack of support.
eWeb set this forum up for 1&1 users, its bloody obvious if you can read that this is not an official forum, but is independant, and despite our various levels of expertise from my idiot level to the higher levels everyone is in the same boat, 1&1 provide no real support, this forum is starting to provide by way of user experience the best level of tech support for 1&1 servers currenty available.
Its not perfect, but is the best we have got. And if its the best we have got then its what we have to develop.
