For the website owner it's a gold mine when it works. It could be a lost customer if a potential visitor comes across your site and it's (Google's analytic server) not working.

As a web surfer, I'm not very fond of Google Analytics. Whenever that Google server is experiencing problems and I come across a site using Analytics, the site just hangs and I move on very quickly.

As the owner of several websites I have thought about using Analytics until I remember about my bad experience with hanging websites. To me, I not sure if it's worth losing potential visitors/customers over collecting stats.

Have you had any problems with the analytics server not responding? Do you see any holes in your data? Any complaints from visitors/cumtomers about your site just hanging?

Since the problems I've come across seem to be at random times during a twenty-four hour period I haven't been able figured out yet if the analytic server goes down at random times for maintenance (purging, data backup, etc...) or if the server is having troubles handling the load since analytics has become so popular.

FWIW, the google analytics FAQ explains that you should "paste the javascript" exactly before the "close body tag" - thus any disruption they have will not cause issues with the page rendering (browsers in quirks mode can cope with in the worst case not-well-formed html etc.).

I have used them for 12 months+ across multiple domains, and never ever had any issues as a result. The facility is awsome. 10/10.
