View Full Version : 99% of all uploads fail on Root server I

I bought a root Server I last week
when uploading any files the upload fails
I tried uploading through the plesk file manager, ftp, php, and ssh all have the same results
I have also tried from two different computer using two different ISPs
with the FTP transfers the error is as follows
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
450 Transfer aborted. Link to file server lost
this problem pretty much makes this server useless to me, I'm setting up a PC game mods site (people upload files for everyone to use)
any Ideas I can post any logs or confs you want to look at

Does the transfer even start, is it failing halfway through ..intermittently? Or fails right out of the gate? Have you tailed the logs to see what errors are popping out ...if any.

the upload does start, but it stoped at different points
if I upload a 4 meg file
if might stop at 1 meg the 1st time 3 the 2nd and 500k the 3rd
I can not find any errors in the logs but these two
/var/log/messages
Feb 11 16:04:02 u15178130 init: Id "T1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
&
/var/log/secure
Feb 11 11:09:43 u15178130 agetty[16074]: ttyS1: ioctl: Input/output error
these two error happen all the time, the 2nd one happens every 10-20 seconds

update
nothing really new, I had a guy in Chicago try to upload a file and he has the same problem I do
I guess I will cancel the server unless you guys have some ideas

could it be a bad network card or cord?

had 1and1 re-image the drive after they claimed it was not a hardware issue, it must be something I did
I noticed it was a different image than before, the GFX glitch in myphpadmin was gone and the counter strike module in plesk is no longer there
now did any of this help NO
I still have the same problem
Is 1and1 always this bad?

You might try tailing the messages log file with "tail -f /var/log/messages" before/during/after the FTP transfer and see if it shows any errors
Also take a look at the network interface for any errors with "ifconfig -a"

looks good, as far as I can tell

Here's what i can think of
Have you tried active/passive mode on your client?
Do you have a firewall turned on? Can you turn it off?

Socket errors definitely occur for me when active/passive isn't set right. Also check your quotas. If you're hitting a quota limit during the upload it will give you the boot.
What FTP client are you using? Have you tried multiple?
Did you try restoring ths server?
Better yet, contact their technical support.
