I wish there was an option for all of those... The ticketing system would be good, but I think dedicated support for Dedicated Servers would be more helpful.

If it still takes 24 hours for them to respond to a ticket, then its really no different than calling in, the way it is now. But atleast with dedicated support for Root Servers, you would have someone that could maybe handle issues right away for you :)

dedicated support definately... when I write in for support I always get a lazy email back about 2 days later with questions already answered inthe original email...

Features not listed..

The ability to upgrade ram and transfer and harddisk space, this is where other companies are blowing 1and1 out of the water. the offer upgrades and decent locost prices.

Like one company has a memory upgrade from 512MB to 1024MB for 130$ One time fee.

I mean companies like layered tech are growing and soon will pass 1and1 in dedicated sales because of things like this.

Also allows more the FC4/SUSE9/Debian woody for operating systems. Add freebsd/solaris/redhat(redhat is understandable to have an extra fee with), SLACKWARE ( this is th emost wanted operating system for linux because of stability and ease of use ) ubuntu and gentoo.

Just some things you guys should think about.

I don't think I want 1and1 offfering more images. They seem to have problems with the ones they currently offer. Incidentally, if you're a plucky person you can install virtually any flavor of Linux you want.

I would love a RAM upgrade option but I doubt they have the technicians to handle it considering their support largely resides in India.

You can transfer HDs pretty readily using FTP backup (one of the areas where 1and1 does better than many companies).

well.. their Techs that handle server hardware issues seem competant enough... Just their phone guys don't.

and so thats where all our american jobs went? and American COmpany that outsources to those who work for pennies?

meh you need to go quality over cost in a case like this.....

hmm.. i dont like the way you can see all the passwords in your control panel! i know this may sound silly but the idea of 2 clicks in the CP and the server gets re-imaged is maddness!! maybe it should have a unique password set to enable it to re-image..

Support for VMWare - Specifically allowing VMWare Mac id's over the bridged network. (Currently as soon as their switches see a non 1and1 macid, the port is locked ....)

Configure VMWare so that it does not broadcast a MAC address you're not supposed to use.

Is this something you've done? I'd be interested to see an how-to if so ....

From what I've been able to determine, if I use bridged networking on VMWare, then the mac address will get broadcast.

What I was hoping to be able to do was split some of the functionality on the box, so I have a virtual machine for email handling, and possibly even virtual machines for my resellers. So in this respect I was hoping to be able to assign additional IP addresses to separate virtual machines ....
