We've been experiencing terrible connectivity/performance to our Root servers as well as the 1and1 website itself. We contacted support and got a tech who seemed to have it pretty well together (what a refreshing change). He advised they had some routing issues with an upstream provider and they were trying to contact them to work out the issue.

Here are some ping results:

Ping statistics for 217.160.251.30:
Packets: Sent = 843, Received = 554, Lost = 289 (34% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 46ms, Maximum = 62ms, Average = 48ms

Well, when it was getting a response, it looks like it wasn't a bad response. Usually when your loosing that many packets, your round trip times are pretty darn high too!

I have three server outside of 1and1 and I wasn't having any problems with them today. They are also using the Sprint backbone. Maybe its just isolated to 1and1?!?!?

If it's a bad router that's just dropping packets then it's quite possible to have packet loss without high latency. Latency problems usually occur when a router is totally down and the traffic has to reroute.

Yes, I have played too many online games ;)
