Well it was too good it be true (sort of).

I just got an e-mail from 1and1.co.uk informing me of a change to their terms and conditions.

Please be aware that changes have been made to Terms and Conditions for 1&1 Server products. These are provided at the following link:
http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/TcRootserver

From March 7, 2006 network bandwidth of your server will be reduced to 10MBit upon exceeding a 30-day traffic limit of 1 Terrabyte. This limit can be amended in your 1&1 Control Panel at http://admin.1and1.co.uk to a further 250 Gigabytes at 100MBit bandwidth. This can be repeated as often as required for no extra charge.

If, in respect of these revised terms & conditions you would like to cancel your contract with 1&1 Internet Ltd, then you may do so by following our standard procedure.

If you are currently within a minimum term period of contract we will additionally make this option available in this instance for a period of 60 days following March 7, 2006 - without further additional charge to you. Please follow our standard procedure to cancel and then email admin@1and1.co.uk in order to waive the minimum term agreement.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

If it's possible to restore 100mbit and increase the traffic in 250gb for free I don't really know why they added this. It only makes it a little bit more difficult for the user. I'm not sure whether I should cancel or not. There are no deals like this elsewhere.

Today is 7th March and the server hasn't been restricted. It is currently pushing out 2mb/s. I have also logged into the control panel and I am currently unable to find the tools to change speed and increase bandwidth. I guess I will wait to see what the next few days have in store.

I guess the old saying is true...

There is no such thing in this business as "unlimited"!!!! :)

It's called inconvenience. By making you log in every time you exceed the bandwidth they make it less convenient than just "unlimited". Now it's more like "unlimited*"

There's two possible reasons to do this
1. Some people were sucking down bandwidth like water (likely)
2. They hope that people whose time is worth more than money will pony up for another server (long shot but possible)

Oh my :| this doesn't sound too good, so what is this saying?? I mean I have a netmeter thingy running on mine atm, and it says about 2 something Terrabytes .. :| I'll read through this again. It is kinda worrying me a little... lol.

Yeah I run it at about 2mb/s too or about that between 1 and 3.. all depends :|

Sure is :-( well.. nice of them to e-mail me about it. *sarcasm*

I just wish that they would hurry up and impliment it so I can see how badly it messes things up, if they don't do it soon I'll just cancel as they allow so long for people with minimum contract agreements to cancel too, so I'd kinda like to see them do it... before that period is up.

I just read this.. on their FAQ in a response to my e-mail I sent them. Telling that I was discusted about this, and so forth.. well and that I wasn't really sure what was going on as I never got any e-mail.

"When a server using bandwidth throttling has reached 1,000Gb, it will reduce the connection to the
network from 100MBit to 10MBit temporarily. Bandwidth throttling will usually continue until the
end of a specified period or a request to support."

So does that mean we can request tonot have this option in place at all??

I haven't been throttled :(

Neither have I. I don't understand it really. But perhaps there is some way to get around it by contacting their customer support. Might take forever to get a reply.

I may e-mail them, and ask if this is the case. if so then that's fairly good!

Well I got another reply yesterday to my question about the option to have it not on and stuff.. Well they basically said there is no option. there should be an option in my control panel?! Well... There isn't. So has anyone else seen this appear yet???

Also I presume we're all able to cancel due to these changes not just those who got the e-mail? Which if it's the case it's only those with the e-mails that can cancel then it sucks :(

Okay... Just to let you all know I AM NOW on 10Mbit :( so... it's happened.

One thing... I can't see ANYTHING in the control panel relating to the speeds or anything.. so I don't know what is happening but ALL my services have now had to be terminated, or restricted to the minimum :( Really isn't good.
