The global.asa file in one of my domains is not executing. I believe the issue to be related to the iis application settings for the domain.

Does anyone know if these are accessable for shared hosting accounts or what i may have done to cause the problem in the first place?

Still waiting on 1&1 tech support.

A little update on my global.asa problem.

It took three phone calls but I was finally able to speak with someone regarding my global.asa file not executing. We spent the first five minutes arguing about web.config files and other .net issues not related to my current problems.

I finally got through to him that the site was not .net based it was strictly "standard" (pre-dotnet) asp.

We then spent the remainder of the call arguing over whether or not my code was at fault. He persisted in arguing this point despite the fact that the code ran fine at my previous host and ran fine at 1and1 two days prior and if I replaced all the code with a statement that initialized a new session variable it still wouldn't run.

I tried to explain that i felt that for some reason the IIS application settings for the domain had become corrupt. He said he could not see any problems with the site configuration. I asked what the application settings said on the home directory tab for the site.

He asked what I was talking about.

I was talking about the IIS management console.

He didn't have access to that (I'm wondering how he could assure me the site configuration was fine with out looking at it) I asked if he could escalate the call to someone who did. After seven minutes on hold he got back on the line and said he spoken with one of the server techs and no configuration problems could be found and I would be receiving an e-mail from them. That was the end of the conversation as he had hung up.

The domain in question was onlinepvf.com. It was located in a sub-directory of the xxxxxxxxxxx.onlinehome.us subdomain that is the "root" (i use the term very losely) for my msdeveloper account.

The destination type for onlinepvf.com domain was set to "Home Directory" pointing to an existing sub-directory of my xxxxxxxxxxx.onlinehome.us site.

It's been two weeks and I have received no e-mail regarding the issue. I have since discovered that if i try to load the onlinepvf.com site in frontpage it instead loads the parent directory. After that I tried putting the global.asa file in the parent directory and it executed fine. I am as sure as ever that the application settings for the site have been removed or corrupted and if anyone would look into the issure it is easily fixed (I've had the same problem on my office server twice before.)

You should send an email to support@1and1.com and copy admin@1and1.com which seems to be the upper level support that your seeking.

I'd love to tell you it was a fluke but it probably wasn't. Back when we used shared hosting (shared web server with a separate server for MySQL) we'd have strange outages. Sometimes the web server would go down and sometimes the DB server would go down. I had techs tell me the server wasn't down when neither myself nor people outside the network could reach sites (or when my applications killed themselves after being unable to connect to the DB server). And, suddenly, mysteriously, the servers would come back up. There's no magic here, just persistance. Don't expect 1and1 to call you back, stay on them. My boss is a bulldog and he'd get results out of them in very short order when we had severe problems.
